The Use of Telephone Poles in Communication

Telephone poles of wood are made out of locally available trees – generally the Cedar wood, as it is weather resistant. The telegraph poles are made out of straight tall trees.  A two letter code is burned into the side of the pole to help everyone identify its species. Wooden poles were also used to carve out their origin and destination, their purpose, their length and milestone on them. The date on which they were last serviced is also mentioned on them. In some places, they even have their co-ordinates carved on them say a poor man’s geo-positioning device. Telephone poles also double as utility poles on which the traffic lights, the streetlights and other utilities are mounted to reduce cost and reduce clutter on the streets.
