Your electric bike conversion kit can only be put to optimum use if it matches the features of your old bike exactly. For instance, if your old bike has aluminum fork and you have bought a front wheel drive kit with a powerful motor of 350 watts and above, the kit will be of no use. The motor is going to be too powerful for the aluminum fork which will break or bend easily. So, if you wish to go in for such a kit, make sure that your bike has a steel fork.
