Is Weight Training Beneficial for Women?

My focus as a women, I confess, has not really been on weights or bodybuilding. I know that they exist, but the interest factor has just not been there. I have done the sit ups and leg lifts that are supposed to give you a flat stomach and toned legs. Now I am told that Weight Training for Women is actually very beneficial. Many modern-day workouts for women consider weight training to be essential. Apparently, weight training exercises are just as necessary as cardio routines. I have no idea where to start with weight training, but I am sure the informational Internet will have some routines listed for women.
