Red State, Blue State, Pink Baby , Blue Baby
I was thinking about colors the other day, and how we use them to describe things that really have no relevance. I mean, it makes sense to associate some colors with things. Like, Granny Smith apples are green and Macintosh apples are red. Those colors are organic to the object. But what about all this Red State/Blue State and pink for girls and blue for boys business? Why does it matter and how did this stuff come about? I was poking around the internet for gender neutral clothing for my kids and found some cool baby clothes but most of them were of the pink or blue variety. I finally happened upon one site, Tiny Revolutionary, that had lots of amazing options and was dead on with their political point of view. They also didn’t have any Obama or McCain tee’s. It’s like they know they’re bigger than that and I love it. We’re all bigger than blue or pink or red or blue. We’re people first.
