Door Panic Bars
I am a repair building guy but I have no idea what door panic bar are. Should I panic? I asked Jeff about it and thank God that he was kind enough to give me little lecture about panic bars.A panic bar is a typical building requirement for emergency exits and such. It’s a very important component in building doors. Panic bar is also known as crash bar. It acts as a mechanism for unlatching a door, consisting of a metal bar fixed horizontally to the front of the door and hinged. It is operated by pushing on it, unlatching and opening the door at the same time. Fire codes require them on all fire and emergency exits. The name crash bar got the reference because it can be operated by someone "crashing" into it.When needing panic bar, some considerations to determine exactly what type of panic bar you need should be answered. Is it a single or a double door? What is the door made of like wood or steel? Is it an aluminum door with glass in it? These should be answered before you buy one.
