Koi Pond Filtration Tips
If you’ve built yourself a koi pond (or are thinking of building one) you need effective filtration to keep your pond attractive to look at and your fish healthy.
There are a variety of koi pond filtration types; like mechanical, biological and even chemical but chemical filtration isn’t recommended as koi fish are quite sensitive.
For starters, I’d recommend getting a pump that was capable of moving the entire pond capacity within the span of an hour and a filter that is capable of holding about 1/3rd of the capacity at any given time.
For example, if your pond holds 1,000 gallons of water, your pump should be able to move all 1,000 gallons per hour and your filter should be able to hold about 300 gallons or so.
After this, I’d look to natural filtration sources such as rock and water plants to aid in the filtration process.
