Secondary Infections from Atopic Dermatitis

Having eczema is painful and uncomfortable. However, some cases of atopic dermatitis eczema are made worse by the presence of a secondary infection. The open wounds of eczema are very susceptible to infection, especially if the wounds are scratched. Scratching slows healing, reopens wounds, and can actually force germs into the skin. Once a secondary infection sets in it can cause the eczema to spread, slow down healing, and leave terrible scars. A secondary infection should be treated immediately. If you are suffering from atopic dermatitis and believe you have contracted a secondary infection, you should contact your doctor immediately to get it treated.
