Patient Had To Request To Be Screened For Prostate Cancer But By Then It Was Already Advanced
When it comes to prostate cancer, men of African-American descent are at higher risk than the total population. A male patient of African-American descent was being treated by a doctor for prostate related issues, among others. The physician failed to perform routine prostate cancer screening and failed to schedule any tests to determine whether the prostate issues were the result of cancer. The physician also failed to refer the patient to a Urologist. After turning 52, the man himself requested screening when he read an ad in the local paper that discussed the benefits of early diagnosis. For this patient the outcome was that he did have cancer that that it had spread outside the prostate. The law firm handling this case reported it settled for $750,000.
