A Popular Fruit

The Acai berry is the fruit of the acai palm which mainly grows in the swamps and floodplains of central and south America.  It is a small, round dark purple fruit which grows to be about one inch in size and looks similar to a grape.  The pulp surrounds one large, singular seed which makes up about 80% of the fruit.  The food is harvested by the native populations of South and Central America and is an important part of their diet.  It is also popular in the western world as a dietary supplement due to it’s high nutritional properties having found to be rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and amino acids.
