Only government edict will sanction or protect existing monopolies. Look at third-world countries, where monopolies abound precisely because of government protection. You can McDonald’s in Moscow, but not Lagos, because the government won’t allow McDonald’s to challenge a monopolistic position of local company. Free markets allow the expansion of economy and encourage creative destruction of old standards. Because of free markets, we have better wages and higher standards of living. Being poor in the USA is better than being middle class anywhere else in the world, including much of Europe.

Some gratitude to those who pay taxes and contribute to a healthy economy would be greatly appreciated. But, that they envious selfishness of those who live off the labor of others would overwhelm any sense of gratitude.

China is spending billions building entire cities, funded by the government. It’s Keynesian economics gone wild. I’m not saying it’s a smart plan, but their Communist leftist policies are driving growth, much more than their free advice market is (which is a common misconception). Most of their growth is due to construction and the Communist government. Take from that what you will; I’m not saying we should do the same, but it’s definitely pulling all the numbers we wish we had.

In a way, they’re enacting all the programs/spending the Democrats wish they could get, while doing business free of environmental regulations which is the envy of the Republicans.
